BDP will work with developer China Greentown Development Company on a mixed-use scheme in Hangzhou near Shanghai.

Architect BDP has been appointed to masterplan a new district in the city of Hangzhou near Shanghai in China.

The firm is working for client China Greentown Development Company on the mixed-use scheme, which will link the city centre with the Hangzhou West Lake.

The scheme will convert traditional dwellings into a small-scale retail area. This will be mixed with new residential areas which the firm said will act "like mountains" around the retail area.

BDP said that China considered the UK to have particular expertise in regeneration strategies "with an approach that recognises the existing context within a vision that accommodates a rapidly changing pattern of activity".
