Billington boss to leave after 12 years

The boss of listed steelwork contractor Billington is stepping down after 12 years with the firm.

Mark Smith joined as chief operating officer in 2014 and became chief executive the following year.

He will leave on 1 January next year and will be succeeded by chief operating officer Trevor Taylor. Smith said he will stay on in an advisory role for at least 12 months.

The change was announced as the firm said revenue for the six months to June jumped 29% to £54m, while pre-tax profit climbed 65% to £2.8m.

Cash stood at £13m at the half year, down from £21m at the end of 2025, which Billington said was down to increased working capital requirements.
