Tory leader questions mayor's ability to build an airport on the Isle of Sheppey

David Cameron has claimed the London mayor lacks the power to build an airport on the Isle of Sheppey.

“Boris does not have the power to build a new airport,” the Conservative leader told a group of 250 in Chatham, Kent, yesterday. “What Boris is doing is having an investigation as to whether such a thing would be possible.”

He was speaking to attendees of a Cameron Direct meeting, in which members of the public are invited to pose questions to the Tory leader.

Cameron also said the Tories would stop short of backing coal-fired power stations if they lacked carbon capture and storage.
