At least 15 people have been killed and 50 left trapped following a building collapse in India.

A chimney caved in on over 100 workers who were carrying out construction work on a thermal power plant in the Indian state of Chhattisgarh, officials said.

District superintendent of police Ratanlal Dangi told Reuters: “It’s a massive accident”.

He added: “We have launched a rescue and relief operation to save about 50 workers and engineers trapped inside.”

The plant belongs to Bharat Aluminium Company Ltd (Balco).
