Oxford architect Berman Guedes Stretton has been appointed for a £1.4m lecture theatre at Queen’s College, Oxford University, after winning a limited competition against Rick Mather Architects, MacCormac Jamieson Prichard and van Heyningen & Haward.

As shown in the CAD image, left, the winning scheme comprises a delicate timber roof that floats over massive old stone walls, and a glazed gable end overlooks a tiny garden. Price & Myers was the structural engineer and Hoare Lea the services engineer for the competition.
