Housebuilder was bought by private equity last year

Scottish housebuilder Cala Group has appointed Tom Nicholson as its new chief executive.

Nicholson most recently acted as non-executive director to the Cala board and has previously served in a range of senior positions at Crest Nicholson, Linden Homes, Galliford Try and Berkeley Homes.

He has taken over from Kevin Whitaker, who became chief executive in 2018.

He said: “While market conditions are likely to remain challenging into 2026, I am confident that, with the strong support of our shareholders, Cala will continue to further strengthen its leadership position in the UK housebuilding industry.”

Cala operates through nine region business across the south of England, the Cotswolds and Scotland

Previously owned by L&G, it was acquired last September by Sixth Street Partners and Patron Capital Advisors.

Cala Group sold 2,861 homes last year and reported a turnover of £1.2bn. Pre-tax profit was £13.4m, down from £82m, having been significantly hit by exceptional items.

The Edinburgh-based firm was ranked the eighth largest housebuilder in the UK in Building’s Top 50 housebuilders table published last week.
