1980s complex to be turned into new homes, retail and public space
Developer Capital&Centric has submitted an application to High Peak borough council in Derbyshire to replace a 1980s shopping centre called The Springs in Buxton with a 332-home neighbourhood.
The £100m scheme, designed by Stephenson Hamilton Risley Studio, will deliver townhouses and apartments for rent with a resident gym, a mini cinema and co-working space.
It will make space for independent bars, shops and cafes as well as a more accessible route from the railway station into town.
There are also plans for green public spaces around the River Wye intended for dining use, events and leisure.
The Manchester-based developer said its year-long consultation with local people has resulted in a design “full of nods to Buxton’s past”, such as colonnades, bay windows and the use of materials like limestone and sandstone.
John Moffat, joint managing director at Capital&Centric, said the firm “made the plans even greener [and] expanded the housing offer” following consultation feedback.
