Contractor continues with plan to cope with shrinking market

Contractor Carillion is on track to complete the downsizing of its UK construction business by the end of the year.

The contractor started re-scaling its UK building operation in 2010 because of poor market conditions.

Since then things have not improved in the construction sector, which saw a contraction of 3% in the first quarter of this year.

In an interim statement to the market the firm said it would continue to be selective in the jobs it bids for to help it maintain a healthy margin.
