Local building boom drives 4% price rise between July and August

Prices of cement are increasing monthly in the United Arab Emirates because of the local construction boom.

According to the building materials index, issued by the statistical unit of Abu Dhabi's department of planning and economy, prices of Portland cement in the UAE rose to £77 per metric tonne in August, compared with £74 the previous month. This was attributed to a number of real estate projects entering their construction phase.

The index showed that the construction boom in the UAE - and in Abu Dhabi in particular - has driven an increase in the number of projects offered to contractors, while pushing up building material prices and general construction costs.
