Aedas Architects' Hong Kong office has drawn up this masterplan for one of three bids for the West Kowloon Cultural District in Hong Kong. The 30-year commission will involve building and operating 200,000 m2 of cultural facilities beneath a 220,000 m2 canopy (pictured). The masterplan envisages a performance venue by Herzog & de Meuron and three theatres by Jean Nouvel. Richard Rogers Partnership is joint masterplanner. Foster and Partners, Cesar Pelli & Associates, Kenzo Tange, the Jerde Partnership and HOK are all signed up to rival bids.
