The Construction Industry Training Board has identified the latest group of potential recruits for UK construction: Girl Guides.
The Go For It! Challenge, launched this week, is aimed at guides aged between 10 and 14. The programme will include activity packs, quizzes, factfinding tasks and site visits.

The guides will learn about famous landmarks, the division of labour in the building industry and construction methods around the world. They will be able to try their hand at architecture, town planning and engineering.

The guides will visit local construction sites to find out more about how buildings are assembled.

Girlguiding UK has 620,000 members, which makes it the biggest voluntary organisation in Britain for girls and young women.

Kay Leech, regional skills manager for the CITB, said: "These packs will be sent out to guide groups around the country. There should be something in there to appeal to every girl and help them understand the importance of construction.

"It's not just about making them consider construction as a career, it's also about making them appreciate the importance of construction to our society."

A pilot day was held last week in Epping, Essex, when guides visited a Willmott Dixon housing scheme and designed a housing estate.
