English Heritage has intensified its strategy of conservation-led regeneration with a pioneering initiative covering the whole of the city of Liverpool.
EH chairman Sir Neil Cossons launched the Historic Environment of Liverpool Project this week in partnership with Liverpool council, urban regeneration company Liverpool Vision and other bodies.

He said: “This is the first time English Heritage and its partners have engaged with a whole city’s historic environment, and we hope this project could prove an exemplar for groups in other cities.”

The three-year project will involve the creation of a heritage map of the city centre and suburbs, including historic buildings, streets and open spaces. Conservation efforts will be aimed at buildings seen to be at risk.
