A series of major clients and industry firms are keen to use the key performance indicators established in the wake of the Egan report.

The KPIs, a tool through which construction performance can be measured to help continuous improvement in the industry, are popular with different client types, contractors and consultants, one speaker said.

Martin Print, representing the Construction Best Practice Programme, said Associated British Ports, Gloucester City Council and London Borough of Hackney were among the clients that have enquired about KPIs.

Amec, Balfour Beatty, Costain, construction manager Mace, QSs Gardiner & Theobald and EC Harris and engineer Buro Happold are among the industry firms embracing the concept.

Print also revealed how BAA’s pavement team, which includes Amec, had used the indicators to demonstrate progress on its tower stands project.

The team had performed well on improving time cost and productivity rates, although it had been slightly below par on its defects scores.
