Organisers highlight plumbing and electrical problems just two days before village is due to open

Commonwealth Games officials have raised serious concerns over the state of the Delhi athletes village due to open in two days time.

England’s team management said that ’urgent’ work needed to be completed before athletes moved in on Friday.

In a statement Commonwealth Games England said: “Monsoon weather has highlighted a number of different issues which need to be addressed including plumbing, electrical and other operational details.”

Commonwealth Games Federation President Michael Fennell said that the condition of the village had ’shocked’ the majority of competing nations.

He said: “Many nations that have already sent their advanced parties to set up within the Village have made it abundantly clear that, as of the afternoon of September 20, the Commonwealth Games Village is seriously compromised.”
