The future of Dennis Lenard as chief executive of Constructing Excellence was this week in doubt.

Senior industry sources said his contract for the top job, which expires at the end of the August, would not be renewed. Lenard has been in the role for two years, since the DTI-backed body was created.

Constructing Excellence this week declined to comment. Lenard, and Constructing Excellence chairman Peter Rogers were unavailable for comment. It is understood that Lenard may stay on at the organisation after a restructuring, but not as chief executive.

An announcement is expected within days.

Lenard has been a firm proponent of change within the UK industry and has made some controversial comments as CE chief executive. He told the Financial Times last year that UK construction was still stuck in the 1980s.
