Survey reveals 17% increase in graduate applications and 6% rise in average salary for graduates to £22,625

The number of graduate entries into construction is improving according to a new survey released this week.

The 2006/2007 Target Graduate Trends Survey found that the average number of vacancies at built environment recruiters was an average of 49 this year compared to 43 last year. Firms are expecting this to jump by a further six to 55 next year, the report said.

Figures on applications and starting salaries were equally rosy. The number of graduates applying for positions soared from 857 to 1,018 this year, whilst pay packets were up from £21,227 to £22,625 this year.

After a significant drop last year the number of firms offering work experience remained stable at 82%.The figures were based on a survey of nearly 100 constracting and consultancy firms.
