Arrowcroft is locked in a dispute with rival Stanhope over who will develop this 12-acre site in Croyden, Surrey. The council supports Arrowcroft’s £400m Michael Aukett-designed scheme (pictured), which has a 12,500-seat arena – but Stanhope owns most of the land. John Prescott this week refused an outline planning application from Stanhope as it was not detailed enough. However, Stanhope plans to submit a more detailed application later this summer, pointing to an ODPM comment that an arena was not a prerequisite. The stand-off could lead to the council using a compulsory purchase order to obtain the land from Stanhope.
