Edinburgh mill collapses on excavation team from Central Demolition killing a 45-year-old man.

A worker was killed yesterday when he was trapped in the rubble of a derelict mill he was demolishing in Edinburgh.

Chancelot Mill in Leith collapsed while the 45-year old man was operating a digger at the site. A colleague who was at the controls of a similar machine escaped with minor injuries.

The two men worked for Central Demolition, based in Bonnybridge, Stirlingshire.

Rescuers believed that around 10%of the 160ft-high building collapsed outwards on top of the men. The efforts of the fire brigade and police were hampered by a second collapse during the rescue operation.
