Assura was bought by Primary Health Properties last September with Murphy, a director of the British Property Federation, stepping down at the end of last year.

Williams will stay on the board until January next year before leaving.

Derwent chairman Mark Breuer said: “[Jonathan] brings a strong combination of listed real estate leadership, operational discipline and capital markets expertise, with a proven track record of responsible value creation.”

Derwent’s current jobs include a £100m office and retail scheme to redevelop a grade II-listed building on London’s Oxford Street which is due to be carried out by Kier while Multiplex is expected to move on site early next year for its £150m office scheme at 50 Baker Street.
