Simon Brophy admits to £4m fraud after handing his own company the Dome lighting contract.

The head of lighting at the Millennium Dome has admitted taking part in a £3.95m fraud. Simon Brophy awarded his own company Pro Design the tender to provide lighting for the Dome in 1999. He also took £140,000 kick-backs from another company for a contract.

Brophy pleaded guilty at Southwark Crown Court in February, while David Gordon from the Isle of Wight, a Pro Design director admitted fraud yesterday. They will be sentenced at a later date.

Police said that Brophy had abused his position. He moved the funds to foreign bank accounts and spent the proceeds on yachts, a helicopter, property in the US and expensive foreign travel.
