Man in his 30s pronounced dead at scene after falling from height, police say

A man in his 30s was killed this afternoon after falling from a Structure Tone site in London’s West End.

Police said the man, believed to be a worker at the site, was pronounced dead at the scene in Mayfair which happened at the junction of Berkeley Street and Stratton Street.

A Metropolitan Police spokesperson added: “Police were called at around 13:51hrs on Thursday, 9 July following reports that a man had fallen from height on a construction site at the junction of Berkeley Street and Stratton Street, W1.

“Officers attended with the London Ambulance Service. Sadly, a man in his 30s was pronounced dead at the scene.

“His next-of-kin have been informed and are being supported by officers.”

In a statement, Structure Tone said: “We are aware of a tragic incident that occurred at our project site on Stratton Street in London today.

“Our thoughts are with the individual’s family, friends and colleagues at this very difficult time. The emergency services attended the site and we are fully cooperating with the relevant authorities as they establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

“As this is an ongoing investigation, it would not be appropriate to comment further at this stage. We would ask that the privacy of those affected is respected.”

One eyewitness told Building: “The site was closed and everyone was sent home. The police taped off the whole area.”
