Cause of blaze on floors under construction in Chinese mainland’s tallest building as yet unkown

Work on the Shanghai World Financial Centre in China stopped today when a fire broke out on its uppermost levels, Shanghai Daily reports.

Smoke could be seen rising from the still unfinished point of the towering structure, a trapezoidal hole at the top of the building’s 492 metres.

The skyscraper, due for completion next year, is currently completed to 445 metres and has been designed as a mixed use structure, holding a hotel, offices, observation decks and shopping facilities. Once finished, it will be mainland China’s tallest building.
