First and last: Ainsley Gommon Architecture and Urban Design has gained planning approval on behalf of Wirral council for a pavilion to be built in Birkenhead Park. It will house a visitor centre, cafe, toilet facilities, and the park ranger’s offices. An internal planted spine wall curves the length of the pavilion and can be viewed through the glazed front facade that looks out on to the park. Birkenhead Park was designed by Joseph Paxton between 1843 and 1857 and was the first municipal park in the world.
