The Federation of Master Builders has expelled two member firms.

Shopland Building Services, of Staines, Surrey, and Chartwell Construction, of Beckenham, Kent, will both have their membership terminated after an appeals committee upheld an FMB decision to expel them.

Shopland was kicked out for health and safety offences, providing poor customer service and bringing the FMB into disrepute. Chartwell Construction was expelled for failing to comply with the FMB’s code of conduct and bringing the FMB into disrepute.

Laura Hayes, FMB regional director for London, said: “The conduct of these firms was not consistent with standards expected of FMB members.”

The appeals committee, half of which is independent of the organisation, upheld the decision after hearing appeals from both companies. The original decision was taken by the London region.
