Regional builder Stepnell has hired the former boss of Bam’s UK construction business as a director.

Richard Bailey (pictured) left Bam in 2016 after spending 39 years at the business working his way up to managing director of the contractor’s UK construction business.

Warwickshire-based Stepnell said Bailey’s role was a newly created post and he was joining to help the family-owned Rugby firm take turnover up from the current £156m to £200m by 2020.

Stepnell joint managing director Tom Wakeford said: “We’re delighted to have attracted someone of Richard’s calibre to our board. He is well-known for his creative thinking and personal approach with customers and employees.”

The firm, which carries out jobs with a value up to £30m, is currently working on a new £9m technology building for Nottingham Trent university and is expanding the students union building at Leicester university under a £12.5m deal.
