Birmingham's £114m Millennium Point opened to the public last week. Designed by Nicholas Grimshaw & Partners, the complex revolves around a large glass and steel drum, which houses an Imax cinema and appears to float over a public mall. Millennium Point also contains a museum of science and discovery, a technology innovation centre, and the "University of the First Age", a learning centre for young people. The building was built by GCN, with Mace as project manager, Buro Happold as structural engineer, Arup as services engineer and Citex Bucknall Austin as quantity surveyor.
