The French green standards for refurbishment and new buildings

What is it?

France’s HQE (High Environmental Quality) focuses on reducing consumption of natural resources and discharge of pollutants, as well as for enhancing the comfort and the health conditions of buildings.

It is concerned with the design and the construction of both refurbishment and new building projects.

When and how was it created?

ARENE (French Environment and Energy Management Agency ) assisted the Regional Council with the first implementation in France of the HQE approach to building a secondary school, the “Collège Maximilien Perret” in Alfortville in 1997.
