The Hong Kong voluntary green standard for new and existing buildings

What is it?

The Hong Kong Building Environmental Assessment Method (HK-BEAM) is a voluntary assessment tool based on BREEAM which looks at environmental issues in two versions, one for new buildings and another for existing buildings.

It complements current local regulations, such as Hong Kong Planning Standards and Guidelines (KHPSG) and the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Ordinance.

Where was it created?

HK-BEAM was established in 1996 in Hong Kong and updated in 1999 with a new assessment tool created for high-rise buildings.
