Property Merchant Group will hunt for suppliers on Sustainability TV

London office developer Property Merchant Group is calling on suppliers of sustainable materials and products in its quest to make its 120,000 sq ft Cavendish Gate scheme on Regent Street one of the most environmentally efficient buildings in the UK.

Here’s the interesting bit. The shortlisted companies will have to take part in a ‘Green Dragons’ Den’ for the right to supply their concrete, insulation, paints and coatings, carpets, lifts and eco-flush toilets.

Each company’s sales presentation will be assessed by a panel of five expert judges and webcast on Sustainability TV, part of Property Week’s parent, UBM Built Environment.

Two of the glowering dragons, hoping to dole out some withering one-liners like Peter Jones and Theo Paphitis, are Property Merchant Group chief executive James Bowdidge and a Sustainability TV editor.

Sustainability TV will feature the entire development process for the Hamiltons-designed Cavendish Gate from demolition at the start of 2009 through to the opening of the new building two years later – when, of course, the credit crunch will be long gone and prime rents in the West End will be £150/sq ft.
