£35m canal-side housing development gains planning permission

Planning permission has been granted for a key addition to the ongoing Lochrin Basin development, known as Edinburgh's "Little Venice", in the Fountainbridge area of the city.

Michael Laird Architects' proposed £35m residential development, named Lochrin Place, will unite the southern area of the Lochrin Basin development and compliment the near-by Edinburgh Quay, also designed by Michael Laird Architects. Lochrin Place includes 154 flats in two five storey blocks.

The original canal basin, once part of Edinburgh's Union canal, will be reinstated, bisecting the site. An adjoining public space will function as the social hub of the scheme, whilst a series of small gardens and courts interspersed throughout the site provide private space for the residents.
