The number of small contractors seeking employment advice on redundancies and lay-offs dropped in the last quarter of 2009, compared with the same period a year ago

Figures from the Federation of Master Builders (FMB) showed a 2% fall in the number of calls enquiring about employment and redundancies since the third quarter of 2009. This was a 5% slide compared with the same period last year.

Gina Al Talal, information services manager at the FMB, said the nature of calls had also changed. “Calls about lay-offs have tailed off,” she said. “We are receiving more calls about employment contracts and renegotiating staff hours and pay.”
