Multiplex carrying out work on £113m scheme

HOK - University of Glasgow Research Hub

Plans by HOK for a £113m research hub for Glasgow university have been given the green light by the city council.

Multiplex began piling work earlier this month at the former Western Infirmary site in the city’s West End.

The research hub (pictured), which forms part of the university’s Gilmorehill campus, will hold 600 researchers from its colleges of social sciences, arts, science and engineering as well as its medical and veterinary and life sciences departments.

It runs across close to 17,000 sq m and is due to be finished in 2021.

The job is being carried out under the first phase of work at the site which includes putting up five new buildings by 2023 under a £300m investment programme by the university

Phase 1A includes a £91m teaching facility by HLM Architects called the James McCune Smith learning hub and a £34m refurbishment of the grade A listed Joseph Black Building by Atkins and Robertson Construction.
