Architecture firm takes the top spot at Building's second track day event, despite injury and soaring temperatures

Building’s second cycling track day at the historic Herne Hill velodrome in south London took place in sweltering conditions last week.

As temperatures soared to 30 degrees on Wednesday, more than 40 cyclists battled it out over five events organised by Velo Club de Londres.

Architecture firm Hopkins were the overall winning team despite one member, Andrew Henriques, suffering a nasty crash which injured his collarbone.

Justin Lomas, who rode with the architect team Velorose, scooped the individual prize for best performance over the five events, which were as follows:

  • Event 1: 8 Lap Scratch Race (3 heats)
  • Event 2: Keirin Heats
  • Event 3: Keirin Final
  • Event 4: 10 Lap Points Race
  • Event 5: Team sprint

Lomas, founder of IT consultancy Studio Four Four, is a regular rider for the St Neots Cycling club.

The velodrome ride took place a month before September’s Build Moore Cycle to Paris charity bike. The event will be over three days and cover 200 miles through English and French countryside. For more details see Build Moore
