Brandon Lewis sets housebuilding target

Housing minister Brandon Lewis has said “success” for a Conservative government would mean building one million new homes before the end of the current Parliament.

The Conservatives have resisted setting official targets for housebuilding, unlike Labour, which promised 200,000 annually and the Liberal Democrats’ pledge of 300,000.

According to the Independent, Lewis will say in a BBC documentary aired this evening that “success” would mean building one million new homes by 2020.

In the 2014-15 financial year 124,520 new homes were completed in England.
