Architect Hakes Associates has won two architectural competitions in Colchester with designs for a wavy footbridge and a spiralling department store.

Landscape architect Gross.Max won a third competition for a public space of trees and rectilinear pools. All three were sponsored by the Caddick Group for elements within its proposed £250m, 50,000m2 retail development in the town.
