Scheme will include new homes and community hub

Wandsworth council has approved the first phase of the Alton Estate renewal in Roehampton.

Known as Block A, the scheme by HTA will deliver a new community complex and 55 family-sized council homes in the south-west London borough.

The homes will include private balconies and a shared garden, while a neighbouring four-storey community hub will provide space for a GP surgery, library, council offices, a youth space and a community hall.

The scheme targets BREEAM Outstanding, incorporating air source heat pumps, solar panels, natural ventilation strategies and extensive landscaping developed with Spacehub, aiming for a 30% biodiversity net gain.

Work on the Alton Estate began in the 1950s and has over13,000 residents making it one of the largest council estates in the country.
