The competition, which attracted 86 entries worldwide, was launched in June 2004 by BAS and the RIBA. The team saw off competitors led by architect Hopkins Architects and Expedition Engineers, and Buro Happold and Lifschutz Davidson. The station is designed to move as the ice sheet recedes.
