Job involved new platforms and footbridge along with revamped entrance

Bam has completed work on a £140m scheme to expand the grade II listed station at Darlington on the East Coast Main Line railway.

Work, which was given £113m of government funding, involved building two new station platforms, a footbridge, a reconfigured entrance hall and a new multi-storey car park.

Others working on the job included lead architect Aecom, engineer Siemens and Willmott Dixon which carried out a £30m revamp of the station’s entrance as well as the car park.

The work was carried out for a partnership of train operator LNER, the Tees Valley Combined Authority, the Department for Transport and Darlington borough council.

David Horne, managing director at LNER, said: “Darlington is now the fastest growing station on the LNER network, with more and more customers choosing to travel from here each year.”
