More than 200 leaders from construction, housing and architecture attended the Good Employer Guide Live event at the Savoy hotel in London yesterday.
The event, organised by Building, Building Design and Housing Today, featured panel discussions on employment initiatives and issues affecting the industry.
It also saw the launch of Building’s annual Good Employer Guide, which this year included 52 companies, showcasing the work they are each doing on skills and training, diversity, equality and inclusion, wellbeing policies, pay and benefits and more. This year also saw for the first time a publication of separate Good Employer Guide for the housing association sector, featuring 27 organisations.
In addition to discussions of the findings of the guides, yesterday’s event also saw Suzannah Nichol, chief executive of Build UK, presented with a commendation for Female Industry Leader of the Year.
Two organisations from the good employer guides also won commendations for particularly impressive initiatives.
XCO2 won the commendation for the Building Good Employer Guide. The consultancy was commended for its pioneering 9-day fortnight, demonstrating that reduced working hours can drive both employee wellbeing and individual accountability without sacrificing professional standards.
Accent Group Ltd won the commendation for the Housing Today Good Empployer Guide . It built a new people team from scratch and through deep listening, workshops, surveys and feedback loops, successfully co-designed a people strategy and culture map aligned to retention, leadership effectiveness, and customer experience.
This year’s Good Employer Lecture was delivered by Daisy Cooper, deputy leader of the Liberal Democrats.
