Inquiry begins today into 2002 accident on track maintained by Jarvis

An inquest into the Potters Bar train crash, which killed seven people eight years ago, will begin today.

The seven people were killed when the train they were traveling on was derailed and crashed through the station at Potters Bar, Hertfordshire, in 2002. A report by the Health and Safety Executive in 2003 blamed poor maintenance.

The track had been maintained by Jarvis, and the firm never recovered from the negative publicity. Jarvis entered administration earlier this year.

The inquest will be held in Letchworth, Hertfordshire, and is expected to last two months.
