Concrete contractor will close office despite 19% boost in turnover

Bell Projects Ltd the building subsidiary of Welwyn Garden based contractor Doyle Plc is to shut its St.Albans office after a year of poor performance.

The Hertfordshire firm, which is set to announce a 19% increase in turnover to £200m for the year ending next month, will shut its office in St Albans, which houses its building company Bell Projects.

Chairman Stef Stefanou said “regrettably we have been forced to make 9 redundancies, mainly among admin support staff.” Stefanou went on to tell Building Magazine that Bell Projects had been able to redeploy some employees in the firms offices in central London though the offices at Salisbury Hall just south of London Colney would be closing down early in the new year.

The firm, which is based in Welwyn Garden City, employs about 300 people.

Mr Johnson added: “When times are tough, every penny counts.” He said that revenue in 2009 was projected to fall to around £170m.
