Work part of new station being built in city
Plans have been approved for a £400m regeneration of the area around the new Belfast Grand Central Station, masterplanned by John McAslan + Partners.
The city council’s planning committee green-lit the Weavers Cross regeneration project, a mixed-use city centre scheme over 1.3m sq ft with the new station at its heart.
The area’s development is being led by Translink, a public corporation which provides public transport across Northern Ireland, with Arup serving as the project lead.

It will include a new 40,000 sq ft public space in Saltwater Square, as well as offices, residential buildings, hotel and retail.
The step-free Belfast Grand Central is currently under construction and is expected to open in 2025. Local contractor Farrans and Spanish joint venture partner Sacyr, a Madrid-based infrastructure operator and developer, began work earlier this year.
The hub will extend across 160,000 sq ft, providing 26 bus stands, eight rail platforms and improved cycling infrastructure.
