She added: “With responsibility for operational excellence, health, safety and wellbeing, sustainability, our corporate real estate and digital, data and IT, I’m looking forward heading up our drive to become a naturally digital business and to bringing together my time on site with the functional roles to drive forwards our ways of working.”

In a post on LinkedIn, Finlay said she would carry on her current duties “for a while longer, and then will be passing the baton over”.

Finlay replaced Helen Redfern as chief people officer in March 2023, having been Kier’s client and markets managing director.

Prior to this, she was boss of Kier’s Southern construction business. She joined the business in 1988 as a site engineer.
