Kvaerner is looking to buy parts of Fearnley Group – the Manchester-based contractor that went into receivership last month.

Andrew Fearnley, managing director and chairman of Fearnley Construction, said that Kvaerner had made enquiries about the business and was due to visit the company by the end of the week. Kvaerner has confirmed its interest.

Fearnley said that the company's windows division, which had a turnover of £2m a year carrying out council house repairs, has been sold to Salford-based TA Anders. He added that the housing division is on the verge of being sold.

Fearnley's remaining maintenance division, construction business and offices are still on offer and Kvaerner is just one of several companies in the running to buy them, said Andrew Fearnley.
