Firm’s joint venture with Aecom to deliver 17 venues for Brisbane games
Laing O’Rourke has picked up another major scheme in Australia just a few weeks after it was appointed delivery partner for the 2032 Olympics in Brisbane.
The firm has won a scheme to build five underground stations on the Sydney Metro with its deal known as the Sydney Metro West Stations Package West project.
It is working as delivery partner for Malaysian construction and property company Gamuda on the project which is expected to finish in 2032. Earlier this month, Gamuda formally appointed Multiplex to build out its first scheme in the UK – a £250m office project at 75 London Wall.

O’Rourke’s Sydney win comes a couple of weeks after its joint venture with Aecom, called Unite 32, was appointed delivery partner for the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games Venues Infrastructure Programme in Brisbane.
Unite32 will be responsible for delivering 17 new and upgraded venues and monitoring two other venues across Queensland, spanning from the Gold Coast to Cairns. The 2032 games venues are expected to cost $AU7.1bn (£3.5bn) to build.
The appointment has been made by the Games Independent Infrastructure and Coordination Authority which is working alongside Queensland’s government.
In a statement, Aecom said: “The Unite32 partnership combines Aecom’s global technical expertise in planning, design, and program management with Laing O’Rourke’s construction delivery capabilities. This integrated approach will enable efficient delivery of the complex, multi-site program required for the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.”
Laing O’Rourke’s managing director for Australia Mark Dimmock said: “Our combined capabilities mean we’re not just ready, we’re energised to deliver one of the most transformative programs Queensland has ever seen and create a legacy that will endure for generations.”
