Globally-renowned structural engineer David Scott will quit Arup in New York to start with Laing next month

Leading structural engineer David Scott is to quit Arup to join Laing O’Rourke’s Engineering Excellence Group next month.

Scott, whose expertise is particularly noted in tall buildings, will join as the group’s lead director.

He currently leads Arup’s building practice for the Americas from New York.

Scott was extensively involved in redrawiing tall-buildings design standards in the wake of the 9-11 attacks, and worked with Daniel Liebskind on the World Trade Centre masterplan and the Freedom Tower.

Ray O’Rourke, chairman and group chief executive of Laing O’Rourke, said Scott would be bringing more than 34 years’ experience to the business.

“The Engineering Excellence Group is at the forefront of Laing O’Rourke’s innovation agenda,” he said.

“Bringing together some of the world’s greatest engineering innovators, David will be working closely alongside chief engineering adviser Prof Robert Mair, to further develop the group’s innovative solutions, identifying and devising new engineering strategies, bringing renewed benefits to our clients and driving industry-wide.”
