The Austrian city of Graz, this year's European City of Culture, is building itself this modern art gallery. The building, nicknamed the "friendly alien", was designed by British architects Peter Cook and Colin Fournier and is due to open in September. The London-based partners won an international architecture competition to design the building, which consists of a triangulated metal structure clad with a translucent blue double-curved acrylic skin. Pictured is a recently installed "nozzle", or rooflight.
