Bruce has been carrying out the interim role since March when Mace formally split into Consult and Construct after the former was bought by Goldman Sachs.

Then group CFO David Allen had his brief slimmed down to Construct with Allen leaving at the end of last month, He has been replaced on an interim basis by Tony Athurton.

Speaking about the new CFO, Mace Consult chief executive Davendra Dabasia said: “We’re delighted to welcome Shaun to the business at an exciting phase of our journey. As a newly independent company, we are building the senior leadership team to scale our operations, support our exceptional people and their careers, whilst helping clients deliver complex programmes with greater certainty.”

Hughes’s appointment is one of the firm’s first major hires since being bought by Goldman Sachs and comes a few months after Tarek ElHadidi joined as its chief digital and information officer.

Meanwhile, Mace Consult’s private sector business until lead for the UK and Europe has left after 13 years at the firm.

Oliver North went last week, having joined the firm in 2013 from Aecom. North has yet to say where he will end up next.
