Priya Jain will be in charge of roads and rail schemes across US state

The boss of Mace Consult’s business in the Americas is leaving to become New Jersey’s commissioner of transportation.

Priya Jain arrived at Mace three years ago and was handed a newly created role of president for the Americas, which covers the firm’s work in both North and Latin America.

Mace’s Americas business is based in New York and one of the firm’s four global hubs, along with Europe, Asia and the Middle East and Africa.

New Jersey governor elect Mikie Sherrill said: “I am thrilled to announce Priya Jain as my nominee for Commissioner of the Department of Transportation. She has advanced large-scale transportation and major projects across New Jersey and the globe and understands how to build new infrastructure from the ground up.”

He said Jain’s role will be to “cut through red tape and make sure we’re fixing our aging roads and bridges, reducing delays on NJ Transit, expanding bus services to communities across the state, and continue progress on the Gateway Project”.

The Gateway project includes Mace’s Hudson Tunnel scheme, that includes five miles of tunnel underneath the Hudson river as part of a wider nine mile railway extension project between New York and New Jersey.

Prior to joining Mace three years ago, Jain worked for other infrastructure firms, including Atlas, Atkins and CH2M.

In a statement, Mace Consult chief executive Davendra Dabasia said: “Priya has led the business with great skill and commitment as we have continued our growth trajectory to establish Mace Consult as a leading programme and project management consultancy. I wish to congratulate her for this once in a lifetime opportunity that will allow her to continue to deliver major transport infrastructure in the region.

“A recruitment process will start to find a suitable replacement for Priya as we look forward to operating as an independent business.”

Mace is set to sell a majority stake in its Consult business to Goldman Sachs by the end of next month. The business will continue to be known as Mace Consult while its construction business is set to be renamed by the autumn.
