New product launches planned for UK after opening of £8m Swedish plant

Masonite Beams has opened a new manufacturing facility in Sweden, which will supply engineered timber products to the UK.

Over the past two decades Masonite I-joists have had a relatively small presence in the UK, but the company's owner, Byggma Group, is planning to launch a range of new products on the UK market.

The €10m (£7.9m) investment includes new buildings, finger-jointing equipment and an I-joist line. The facility has a production capacity of 24m metres of I-joists per year.

Neil Lewis of Masonite Beams said: “The engineered timber I-joist is now well established in the new-build single family home residential floor market, with increasing success in the apartment floor and the residential and light commercial roof beam markets.

“The product has been somewhat 'commoditised' in recent years thanks to a lack of innovation. That will change, once we have completed the development of our new products.”
